Vineville spotlight on the McQueen Family – Hays, Anne & Holmes

Which worship service and Sunday School class do you attend? We usually attend the 11:00 a.m. service, and we are part of the Disciples Sunday school class.

How long have you been a member of the church?
Hays became a member shortly after his parents moved to Macon in the early 1990s. I became a member after we were married in 2010.

What are some things your family likes to do together or what are your hobbies? Our family enjoys going on walks with our two dogs, Otis & Gus. We also love playing
football, baseball, soccer, or golf in our yard with Holmes.

Tell us a little about your family. Holmes is 3 years old and will attend Stratford Academy’s 3k class in the Fall. His favorite things are: Paw Patrol, Stickers, and his grandparents. Hays and I are both 33, but we met at UGA our freshman year and have been dating/married for almost 14 years now!

What’s the best vacation you’ve been on? The best family vacation is our summer beach trip to Fripp Island. We love seeing the deer and taking evening golf cart rides. What makes it unique is that there are not many restaurant options on the island, so each family (both McQueens & the McCurrys) plans and cooks two meals…its like our own version of “Top Chef” and has gotten quite competitive!

What attracted you to Vineville or what is your favorite thing about Vineville?
Hays brought me to visit Vineville Methodist many times before we were married, and I

always felt very welcomed and part of the fellowship at this church. Hays and I also truly love how much Vineville focuses on providing a variety of ways for young children to get

involved and learn about God’s word from a very early age.

Do you have any good family traditions ? Singing the children’s blessing “God our Father” before meals and squeezing hands after we say “Amen” (well Holmes says “A-wa-men!”)

What do you do for a living? Hays graduated from Mercer law school in 2010 and is now working as an attorney, and I am a teacher at The Academy for Classical Education. Not retiring any time soon!

If you could choose anything to do for a day, what would it be? Anne – Visiting the Magic Kingdom with Hays & Holmes. Hays – If I had only one day, it would be to play a round at Augusta National with the late Arnold Palmer, followed by a steak dinner with my family.

What are a few of your favorite books and/or movies? Anne: Favorite books – The Harry

Potter series, The Help, The Diary of Anne Frank, and The Giver. Favorite Movies—Love
Actually, Forrest Gump
, and It’s a Wonderful Life; Hays – Favorite books – To Kill a Mockingbird; Pillars of the Earth/Century series; All the Light We Cannot See; anything
Carl Hiaasen  Favorite Movies – Braveheart, Tin Cup, and L.A. Confidential.
