This week’s Vineville spotlight is on Eleanor Lane.
Eleanor attended Wesleyan College in 1944 and married a homegrown Vineville man, Bubber Scott, in 1958. Both Eleanor and Bubber were members of the Webb Sunday school class, and Eleanor is still a member of this class today. She and Bubber adopted two children, Howard and Margaret. The family was involved in youth and Wednesday night suppers. Some of their favorite vacations spots over the years were Martha’s Vineyard and Madeira Beach. Golf, tennis, and the League of Women Voters were a few of Eleanor’s favorite activities.
Bubber died in 1977. The support and love Eleanor felt from the church during the time of Bubber’s death took her to a new level of faith and belief in a loving God. She eventually married Bill Lane, and his family embraced Eleanor and her children. Her new mother-in-law invited her to sit on the front pew in worship while Bill sang in the choir. Eleanor felt called to go to graduate school at Mercer to be a counselor and worked for 10 years at the Family Counseling Center, and then at Crossroads Christian Counseling Center. Eleanor continues the tradition of her mother-in-law by sitting on one of the front pews at the 11:00 service. If you ever want someone to sit with, you can join her front and center and get to know this wonderful woman!
