This week’s spotlight is on Charlotte Jordan.
Which worship service and Sunday School class do you attend? I attend the 11 o’clock worship service and am a member of the Allen Sanders Fellowship Class.
How long have you been a member of the church? I have been a member of Vineville UMC for six years.
Tell us a little about your family. My daughter, Laura Llevat, and her husband, Eric, and their children, Charlotte and Jordan, are also members of Vineville UMC. My son, Bill, and his wife, Marianna, live in Florence, Alabama, with their sons, Will and Matt.
What are some things your family likes to do together OR what are your hobbies? I enjoy tending flowers, cooking (especially trying new recipes) and reading. I absolutely love to watch sports, particularly both college and pro football. My favorite teams are Auburn University and the Atlanta Braves. My most favorite sporting events are Charlotte’s softball games and Jordan’s baseball and basketball games! That’s one of the biggest reasons I moved to Macon!! I also enjoy board games, crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
What’s the best vacation you’ve been on? I have had many wonderful vacations over the years – some family vacations to the beach and to Disney World and to the mountains at Christmas. I find cruises to be very relaxing vacations and enjoy them very much. One of my favorites was a cruise on the St. Lawrence Seaway which took me to Canada, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island and Maine. This was years before I moved to Macon, and I met Harriett and Steve Durkee on that trip, little knowing that we would one day be members at Vineville together. Life is beautiful and full of unexpected delight!
What attracted you to Vineville? What is your favorite thing about Vineville? Initially, the greatest attraction to Vineville was that Laura, Eric, Charlotte and Jordan attended. That was enough for me; however, I have discovered many other qualities which make this church outstanding: its unique history, its dedication to outreach in this community and beyond, the opportunities for contemplative worship experiences and the beautiful care and attention given to the interior and exterior appointments of the church building and the plantings on the church grounds. Most of all, I am warmed by the friendliness and the generous hearts of the congregation!
Do you have any good family traditions? Most of our family traditions center around the holidays. One of my favorites is our Christmas Eve tradition of rising early to complete the baking and wrapping of gifts for neighborhood friends which we deliver as a family. We attend the Christmas Eve service at 12:00 noon and have lunch together after the service. We end the day by reading aloud the Christmas story from Luke.
What do you do for a living? After retiring from The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company in 2007, I moved from Sarasota, Florida, to Macon in 2011. Having a passion for hospitality, when the receptionist position at Vineville UMC became available, I knew that was a position I would find rewarding. It has exceeded my expectations!!
If you could choose anything to do for a day, what would it be? Begin with a leisurely cup of coffee (or two), sit quietly and reflect, catch up on the news of the day and read a good book. Later, I would have dinner at a favorite restaurant with friends. Then, music and dancing would be a perfect ending to the day!
What are a few of your favorite books and/or movies? A few of my favorite books are All the Light We Cannot See; The Invisible Bridge; the Irish Country Doctor series and the Poldark novels. Two of my all-time favorite movies are Driving Miss Daisy and Dances with Wolves.
