Backpack Buddies
Through our PleasantVille Neighbors initiative, Vineville has taken on the ministry to care for students in need who attend L.H. Williams Elementary. Each week of the school year food is distributed in backpacks of students to ensure nutritious food is available for the weekend.
We believe Backpack Buddies is an amazing opportunity to show love to our youngest neighbors by meeting practical needs. This ministry began under the leadership of Mimi Brown in 2012. For many years Mimi chaired this effort in ministry, organized space for storing food, and began obtaining volunteers to start this ministry. Since its inception, our efforts have grown from food for 40 students each week now serving over 120+ different students. Mary Catherine Leigh now coordinates this vital ministry to our neighborhood and welcomes your help!
How can you support and get involved?
1. Donate money regularly for use in purchasing bulk food items from The Middle Georgia Community Food Bank and discount stores; a centralized purchase ensures efficiency, economy, and uniformity in food items to be delivered to students.
2. Volunteer time organizing or delivering food –contact Mary Catherine Leigh at mcleighrx@yahoo.com
3. Pray for: The children of L.H. Williams to have their nutritional and spiritual needs met; the staff at L.H. Williams as they care for and educate these children; and our volunteers to share Christ’s love with the children they meet.
