Vineville has a long and generous history of ministry in our neighborhood. For decades you have been giving time and resources as Kingdom agents in this community. You have tutored, taught art, bought school and art supplies, remodeled and repaired houses, fixed bikes, filled backpacks, sent kids to camp, prayed, cared and loved. When visitors hear of the long list of community investment, they are always amazed. The great thing is you just do it. You don’t do it for praise or credit. You don’t seek the limelight. You don’t do it to win political favor. You don’t do it to get patted on the back. You do it because of your own experience of God’s grace. You do it because of who and whose you are!
Once again our Pleasantville Ministry will offer alternative Christmas gift opportunities. Several years ago, in an effort to maximize our local mission work, Pleasantville Neighbors was born. Ministries that fall under this umbrella include the tutoring program at L.H. Williams, the Learn and Earn Bike Shop, Backpack Buddies, Campus Clubs, NAILS, the Field of Hope, Strong Tower Fellowship and the Youth for Christ Athletics program.
This year, over 5,000 backpacks will be filled with food to help feed children over the weekend. Daily tutoring, helping with field trips and hosting the honors program in the spring are all ways you are enriching the experience of the students at L.H. Williams. Our work is a witness to our faith and it is making a difference. Our support of Campus Clubs provides Christian character building and academic assistance year around. You provided the funding for a new reading curriculum at Campus Club. Vineville hopes to partner with Strong Tower again this year to move a property off the blight list. The Field of Hope on Culver Street will bring improved property, green space and recreation mentoring to the neighborhood. Last spring the NAILS team did major renovation on a house less than a block away. Thirty children from our neighborhood have received scholarships to play in our Youth for Christ Basketball program. These ministries are making a real difference in the lives of our neighbors.
This Sunday December 10th, we will have the opportunity to make gifts to our Pleasantville Ministries. This is a “Buy one, get three” sale! You can choose to help restore a house, to rebuild a bike, to build the field, or a host of other projects. The children and families in our neighborhood get the benefit of these gifts. But wait — there’s more!
You get cards for each donation, to send to your friends and family. Your honorees get the perfect gift—knowledge that you thought of and honored them with a gift that does so much good. It always fits, is the perfect color, and (my favorite part) doesn’t have to be wrapped!
Come prepared to buy your gifts this Sunday. There will be a table in the CLC Lobby, outside the Sanders Class and on the landing on 2W near the sanctuary entrance this Sunday. The table in the CLC can take credit and debit cards for those who forget their checkbooks. See you in line Sunday.
You may also fill out the form below to make your gift.
Once you click the “submit” button, you will be taken away from our site and directed to a secure donation site.
Please fill-in your donation amount there, in the Alternative Christmas” section. Again thanks so much.
