Can I Use Your Room?
In Matthew 26:17-19 we find the lead up to the Last Supper. Matthew writes, “On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?’ He replied, ‘Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’ So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.” We don’t know who this unidentified man is. We can surmise that he is someone who knew Jesus and the disciples. He was likely considered a follower of Jesus. Someone who had heard him preach and teach. Put yourself in his shoes. You are that man. You have heard Jesus preach and teach. You follow Jesus. If Jesus asked you for a room – for some of your personal space – what would your response be? The fact of the matter is that Jesus is asking you. He is asking me. He is asking all of us to make a little bit of our personal space available for him. All we have to do is open up and let him in.
